The Multi-Channel Outreach System: How to Combine Email and Paid Without Spamming

Chapter 1 of 714%
Chapter 1

Why Email Signals Are Broken

The most effective outreach combines email with paid advertising. By tracking page views and video watch duration instead of just opens and replies, you unlock behavioural signals that tell you exactly when a prospect is ready to buy.

Most outreach runs on a single channel. You send emails. You wait for opens and replies. When someone doesn't reply, you send another email. And another. By email four, you're annoying them. By email six, you're in spam.

Or you run paid ads. You target an audience. You track impressions, clicks, and conversions. But you have no idea which of your email prospects are seeing the ads, and the two systems never talk to each other.

Here's what changes when you combine them: you multiply your touchpoints without multiplying your spam. The prospect sees your email on Monday, your content in their LinkedIn feed on Wednesday, and your retargeting ad on Friday. Three touchpoints. Three different channels. It feels like presence, not pressure.

But the real advantage isn't more touchpoints. It's better signals.

The two-signal problem

Email gives you two signals: opens and replies. Opens are increasingly unreliable. Apple's Mail Privacy Protection pre-fetches emails, inflating open rates by 30–50%. Corporate email filters do the same. An "open" doesn't mean someone read your email. It means a server pinged a tracking pixel.

Replies are meaningful but binary. They replied or they didn't. You have no idea about the 80% of people who read your email, thought "interesting," and moved on without replying. Those people aren't cold. They're warm. You just can't see them.

This is the fundamental limitation of email-only outreach: you're operating on two signals, one of which is broken.

Chapter 2

What Paid Adds to the Picture

When you layer paid advertising on top of email outreach, you unlock a completely different set of signals.

Page views

Track which prospects from your email list visit your website, which pages they view, how long they stay, and how often they return. Someone who visited your pricing page three times this week is a fundamentally different prospect than someone who opened your email once.

Video watch duration

When you run video ads to your email audience on Meta or LinkedIn, you don't just know who clicked. You know who watched 25%, 50%, 75%, or 95% of the video. That's a depth-of-engagement signal that email will never give you.

Content consumption patterns

Across multiple pieces of content, you can see which topics a prospect engages with most. If they watch your entire video about CRM integration but skip the one about reporting, you know what they care about.

Real-time activity

Paid platforms tell you when someone engages with your content. You can alert the sales team the moment a prospect is actively viewing your material. That's a signal to call them now, not to send another email next week.

Signal TypeEmail OnlyEmail + Paid

Interest depthReply or no replyVideo watch %, pages visited, return visits
Topic interestWhich link they clickedWhich content consumed, for how long

From two signals to dozens

Those signals tell you not just who's interested, but how interested, in what, and when.

Chapter 3

The System: How It Works

Here's the full architecture. You don't need all of this on day one. Start with step 1 and build up.

Run email outreach to your target list

Start with your email sequence. Email's job is to create awareness and drive the first signal. Make sure every email drives to trackable destinations - your website with UTM parameters, landing pages, or hosted video content. Every click should generate a signal you can track.

Track page views and video engagement

Install Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag. When an email recipient clicks through to your site, you know which pages they visited, how long they stayed, whether they returned, and what content they consumed. Video content gives you watch duration - richer than any email signal.

Segment by engagement depth

The power is in the segmentation. Cold = no engagement, keep in email sequence. Warm = clicked at least once, needs more content. Hot = multiple visits, 50%+ video watch, pricing page visited - alert the sales team. Ready = 95%+ video, multiple pricing visits - direct conversion ask.

Retarget your engaged segments

Take your warm and hot segments and push them into paid advertising audiences on Meta and LinkedIn. Your audience is smaller, your relevance is higher, frequency can be higher, and cost per conversion drops - because you're targeting intent, not demographics.

Run the video watch funnel

The video does the qualifying. The platform does the segmenting. Your sales team only talks to people who've demonstrated genuine interest through their behaviour. Under 25% watched? Test a different hook. 95%+ watched? Convert them now.

Chapter 4

The Video Watch Funnel

This is the part most people don't know about. When you run video ads to your retargeting audience, Meta and LinkedIn tell you exactly how much of the video each person watched. You can create custom audiences based on watch percentages.

Under 25% - Hook failed

The hook didn't land. Test a different opening or content angle. Don't retarget with the same video. Try a carousel, a static image with a bold claim, or a shorter video.

25–50% - Dropped off

They're interested but dropped off mid-way. Show them the same video again (some drop off due to distraction, not disinterest), or a shorter version that gets to the payoff faster.

50–75% - Engaged

They're engaged. Show them a 'part 2' that picks up where they dropped off, or a different piece that goes deeper on the same topic. They've told you what they care about.

75–95% - Very engaged

Move them into a consideration sequence. Case studies, testimonials, comparison content, or a direct offer. They don't need more awareness. They need proof and a reason to act.

95%+ - Ready

They watched the whole thing. Hit them with a conversion campaign: book a demo, start a free trial, or send a personalised InMail. The video qualified them for you. Stop marketing. Start selling.

Self-sorting funnel

The video does the qualifying. The ad platform does the segmenting. Your sales team only talks to people who've demonstrated genuine interest through their behaviour.

Chapter 5

What the Sales Team Sees

The output of this system isn't more data for dashboards. It's actionable intelligence for the sales team.

Real-time alerts

When a prospect from the email list views the pricing page or watches 95% of a video, the sales team gets notified. 'Sarah from Acme Corp just watched your entire product video and visited the pricing page twice in the last hour.' That's the signal to pick up the phone.

Engagement scoring

Instead of guessing which leads are "hot," you have a composite score: email engagement + page views + video watch depth + content breadth + recency. The highest-scoring prospects get attention first.

Conversation intelligence

When the sales team talks to a prospect, they know what that person has consumed. 'I noticed you've been looking at our integration content. Is that the main area you're evaluating?' That's not creepy. That's prepared.

Where 60 fits

This is the same principle behind 60: turning engagement signals into actions. 60 does this for post-meeting signals (what the buyer said, what they cared about, what was agreed). The multi-channel outreach system does it for pre-meeting signals (what they watched, what they clicked, what they returned to). Together, they create a continuous signal-to-action pipeline from first touch to closed deal.

Chapter 6

The Economics

Here's why this matters financially.

Email only

You send 5–7 emails over 3 weeks. Each has a 2–3% reply rate. After the sequence, you've heard from 10–20% of your list. The other 80% disappear into silence. You don't know if they're uninterested or just busy.

Email + paid

You send the same emails. But you also track which of the 80% who didn't reply are visiting your site, watching your videos, and engaging with your content. You discover that 15–25% of the "silent" group is actually warm. They didn't reply to your email, but they watched your entire video twice. That's not silence. That's a signal your email-only system completely misses.

Budget reality

£500–1,000/month in retargeting spend against an engaged audience of 1,000–3,000 prospects can outperform £10,000/month in cold audience advertising. Retargeting budgets are small because the audiences are small - but the unit economics are completely different because you're targeting intent, not demographics.

8-week implementation plan

Don't try to build the full system in a week. Start with one layer and add complexity as you learn.

  • Weeks 1–2 - Foundation: Install Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag. Add UTM parameters to every email link. Make sure your website analytics are clean.
  • Weeks 3–4 - First retargeting: Create a custom audience of email recipients who clicked through. Run a content ad to that audience on one platform. Budget: £20–30/day.
  • Weeks 5–6 - Video engagement: Create a 60–90 second video ad to your warm audience. Build custom audiences at under 50%, 50–95%, and 95%+.
  • Weeks 7–8 - Trigger-based actions: When someone in the 95%+ segment visits pricing, alert the sales team. Test a conversion campaign to the 95%+ segment only. Measure against your email-only baseline.
Chapter 7

Common Mistakes

The biggest risks to this system aren't technical. They're behavioural.

Over-frequency

Keep paid frequency under 5 impressions per person per week. The goal is presence, not pressure.

Retargeting too early

Don't retarget someone who clicked one link in one email. Wait for a meaningful signal: multiple visits, video watch over 50%, or a pricing page view. Retargeting everyone who touched your content once is just expensive email.

Ignoring creative fatigue

Rotate your ad creative every 2–3 weeks. The same video to the same audience gets stale. Have 3–4 creative variants ready and cycle them.

Not segmenting deeply enough

"Everyone who visited the website" is not a segment. "People who watched 75%+ of the product video and visited pricing in the last 7 days" is a segment. The more specific, the higher the conversion.

Forgetting the human handoff

The system identifies the ready buyers. A human still needs to have the conversation. Automation gets you to the door. The sales rep walks through it.

The signal hierarchy

Email open → Email click → Page view → Return visit → Video watch 50%+ → Video watch 95%+ → Pricing page visit → Multiple signals combined. Most teams act on the first two. The teams that close more use all of them.
